There is a lot about the idea of “biodentistry” I like.. firstly understanding that the mouth IS the body, and that ultimately nutrition can massively improve outcomes for both. I think our profession has disconnected it for too long. We are also way too tolerant of dental disease without understanding metabolic syndrome and Insulin resistance. We should be far more aware of HbA1c levels, vitD and other markers and what that means for dental and general health risks.
I’ve spent the last few years reading the science and experimenting on myself.
What I cannot tolerate however is the fear mongering by people who are simply trying to get patients to have more dental treatment.
Yes bad dentistry can aggravate and cause inflammation but simple dietary changes are vastly more powerful and evidenced based than some of the ridiculous un evidence based claims we see all over the internet.
We are all learning more and more but for gods sake please be honest and responsible.
There is a sensible approach to health integration in dentistry and we should take that route.
