First post in a long time and something completely non-dentistry related

This is my nephew and soon to be godson Cian. He was born in March at 29 weeks and had a bit of a rough start to his life. But he’s a fighter and doing really well now 💪

Tinylife are a Northern Ireland based charity who help and support families with sick and premature children and have been a huge support to my brother and his wife since Cian arrived

On October 20th I will be running the Amsterdam marathon to support Tinylife and help them continue their great work. I would really appreciate if people could lend their support

Little bit of implant surgery from this week

Upper Left Central Incisor unrestorable due to resorption

Extraction and immediate implant placement with Southern DCT. No need for co-axis with this one

Plan was to immediate load but only managed 25ncm so buried and temporary Maryland bridge for 12 weeks

SMILE TRANSFORMATION!! 😀

What a journey we went on with this lovely lady! When we were looking over her treatment with her this week she was openly admitting how she was so nervous at her initial consultation that she was actually quite aggressive towards us 😬

But she put her trust in us and when we fast forward 5 months - she’s walking out of the clinic this week with a perfect upper arch of teeth 🙌

We still have a little bit to finish on the lowers but what a transformation!! 😁

Fully digital workflows, 6 upper arch implants, no gloopy impressions and finished off with the world-famous Prettau bridge. Cutting edge technology at its best 😎

Dental Impressions

I’ve used traditional dental impressions for a long time but digital techniques are definitely catching up…some would say have caught up and possibly even overtaken

I’m a big tech geek and definitely an advocate of new digital techniques which I’ve been using more and more over the last 12 months

In my opinion - digital is brilliant for crown margins and occlusion but I’m not sure if it captures soft tissue profiles around a single implant as well as a customised traditional impression post. Not yet anyway

FULL MOUTH MAKEOVER!! 😁

This man knew just what he wanted - straight, white, even teeth to restore the wow factor to a mouth full of tired fillings and crowns.

We did a full digital design, crowns on the remaining teeth, and a couple of implants to keep the biting forces even.

Nice case completed today.

Pre-op OPG shows a lot going on. Ideally this lady would be suitable for an upper full arch rehabilitation with sectional implant bridge LRQ but finances were an issue so we decided to take a staged approach,starting with some implants in ULQ and a rochette bridge UR2.

There is a history of previous non-dental related sinus surgery so we both wanted to avoid the sinus if possible.

UL3 extracted and immediate implant placement. UL5 implant placed at an angle to avoid the sinus. Both implants placed deeper than normal to allow for future conversion to full arch restoration. EthOss synthetic bone graft at UL3.

Uncover after 3 months with MUAs and screw retained bridge fitted today.

Most of you will know that for the last 3.5 years I have been working towards the FGDP(RCS) Advanced Diploma in Implant Dentistry. And I am very proud to say that I have passed my final exam!

It has been a long, hard journey and has tested me and pushed me further than I thought it would. But I have learnt so much and have formed some incredible friendships along the way.

A huge thanks has to go to all my colleagues and to Theo Tamas and all the other tutors and lecturers; to the 3 awesome practices I work - ; and to the laboratories for their patience!

And finally a massive thank you to all my family and friends who have supported me along the way…I couldn’t have done it without you.

On to the next challenge now 💪
