Employing in excess of 500 people in over 50 clinics across much of east and central England, the core business is to provide NHS dental services to vulnerable groups who require special treatment or who are unable to be treated in a general dental practice. We also provide Oral Health Improvement and Epidemiology services in Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, Essex, Norfolk and Waveney, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. Yesterday, we held our second annual CDS Day in Nottingham, bringing together colleagues from our Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire services.

We used this day as an opportunity to discuss our plans for the coming year, celebrate our achievements and showcase all the great care that our teams have provided to our patients over the past year.

Our annual CDS Days are an important part of being an organisation that is owned by its employees. Thank you to everyone who attended, presented and helped bring the day to life.

🦷 We’ve had another fantastic week in Oral Health Improvement! 💚

🏆Norfolk & Waveney: Debbie visited the King’s Lynn Nursery School to see how they’re getting along with our Healthy Smiles & Supervised Toothbrushing Programme. The setting is doing an absolutely amazing job, and Debbie was pleased to present them with their Certificate of Accreditation – a great achievement for continuing to work hard with all the standards!

🌟Nottingham: Dawn and Lyndsay joined in at the Peep Sparkles session at the Hucknall Family Hub that supports children aged 0-5 with SEND. The team discussed with parents the challenges faced when trying to clean their children’s teeth and offered advice regarding different techniques, toothbrushing apps, and resources to help make toothbrushing more fun!

A fantastic day yesterday at the first of our annual CDS Days, bringing together colleagues from our Norfolk, Essex and Bedfordshire services.

As an employee-owned social enterprise, these events are a great opportunity to celebrate our achievements, share our plans for the future, and celebrate the incredible care our teams provide for our patients every day.

🦷 Our Nottingham Oral Health Improvement Team were very busy last week! 💚

🎉Loxley House Children’s Disability Team: The team visited Loxley House to deliver tailored face-to-face training with their Children’s Disability Team. The training contained a mixture of both advice for children and adults as they work with those from 0-25.

🪥Mansfield Manor: The team delivered a presentation on why oral care is important for those on palliative care. They gave information around the different stages of palliative care and lots of ideas how to make a resident’s mouth more comfortable towards the end.

🌟Thrive Stay & Play: Nottingham’s Family Hubs invited the team to come along to one of their Thrive Play & Stay sessions for families in Nottingham. The team engaged with the children and their adults on the importance of establishing good oral habits from a young age.

💡Oral Health is important at all ages, so that’s why our team's work to support healthy habits in children, young people, and adults – delivering the best possible advice tailored to individuals and their needs.

Our Stories: Elizabeth's Story

When Elizabeth, an elderly lady, receiving care in a care home, developed facial swelling, her family and carers were concerned that she may be experiencing dental pain or infection.

Our domiciliary team visited within 24 hours and, following assessment and specialist advice, established that the swelling was unlikely to be dental in origin. We were able to reassure Elizabeth’s family and care team that no dental treatment was needed, supporting the existing plan to keep her comfortable in familiar surroundings and respect her wishes.

Sometimes, dental care is not about treatment. It’s about listening, providing reassurance and supporting patients, families and carers when it matters most.
