As during the last period of national restrictions, dental services are to remain open and see patients. Dentistry is an essential medical service. It is a priority for the NHS. Patients are entitled to travel for medical appointments, including dental.

Dear Patients,

Following the government’s announcement, we would like to reassure all of our patients that we will remain open and will continue to practice safely with the highest level of disinfection control through this second lockdown, and in line with all clinical and government guidelines. Should advice change from our governing bodies, we will keep you informed.

How you can help keep our Dental Practice safe for all:

· Please come alone (unless there is a need to accompany children or you need a carer).

· There are floor markers to guide you on social distancing from another patient.

· Payment by debit or credit card only, please.

· Please try and arrive as close as possible to your appointment time as possible. You may need to wait outside for a short while to ensure the Practice is fully prepared for your appointment.

· If you are travelling by public transport, current government guidelines are to wear face coverings.

· Please do not arrive without an appointment.

Dear Patients,

We do have a backlog of emergency patients that we are prioritising before we start seeing patients for routine dentistry. The safety of our patients and our team always remains our utmost priority.

We now have a new patient journey with a closed-door policy. ONLY patients with appointments will be allowed inside the dental practice.

New reception screens, hand sanitisers and enhanced cross-infection protocols have been adopted in line with current guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.

We would like to resume our normal service as soon as possible, and while we do anticipate this will happen soon, your patience in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

As we approach the 2nd week of opening since our working restrictions were partially lifted, Barnet Dental Practice would like to thank all our patients for their support and understanding at this challenging time. We would like to update you on the services currently offered in our phased opening, as we strictly follow guidelines from our governing bodies.

**We will continue to provide our urgent care triage service by telephone during our normal working hours and also now provide a limited range of face-to-face appointments. This is the path forward towards normality but unfortunately, not the usual full service yet.

**As part of our phased opening, treatments, which we previously routinely carried out, will not yet be available for safety reasons. These include dental examinations, hygienist appointments and routine dental treatment. We will of course inform you of their re-introduction as soon as we are able to.

**We will be prioritising emergency appointments to manage toothache and dental infections. If you have a severe toothache or if you have a dental infection, please call the practice on 0208 441 8000 and we will do our best to help you.

**One thing has remained the same: our commitment to your and our safety. Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice. Barnet Dental Practice will be following additional protocols to keep our standards to “best practice” in light of the current pandemic and in line with guidelines issued by our governing bodies.

**We will also allow longer time between patients so that we can carry out behind-the-scenes safety precautions including additional disinfecting
cleaning before and after each appointment. This limits the number of appointments we can offer every day but it does help us keep a safer environment.

You may have seen the update from the government on yesterday's news advising that dental practices can open from 8th June 2020. While we welcome the news so we can get back to doing what we love and do best, this date had not been previously advised to practices themselves.

The guidelines rightly dictate that for the safety of our patients and staff, we must have the correct enhanced PPE in place for each level of treatment. The suppliers currently have shortages of these essential items, and the lack of availability may restrict our re-opening. We look forward to opening as soon as we are able to do so safely.

We will contact patients accordingly where their appointments had been cancelled or they have contacted us for emergency assistance during our closure. Pre-arranged appointments for the coming few months may not stand as we prioritise those in the greatest need and in accordance with new protocols.
