Things your dental hygienist won’t apologize for recommending.
Your hygiene appointment is about more than simply “getting your teeth cleaned.” Our role is to assess your oral health, educate you, and create a treatment plan based on your individual needs.
We won’t apologize for:
• Recommending X-rays when they are clinically necessary to identify concerns that cannot be seen during a visual examination. These include bone loss, abnormalities and tartar detection.
• Reviewing your medical and dental history at every appointment, because changes in your health and medications can impact your oral health and systemic health.
• Teaching you proper home-care techniques so you can maintain your oral health between appointments.
• Educating you about fluoride and polishing when they are appropriate for your individual needs.
• Recommending more frequent cleaning intervals when your oral health indicates that you may benefit from additional support.
• Customizing your treatment based on what your mouth needs, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
• Referring you for further assessment or treatment when we identify something that requires care beyond the scope of your hygiene appointment.
Our goal isn’t to add unnecessary treatment. It’s to prevent problems, identify concerns early, educate you, and help you maintain your oral health.
So no, we won’t apologize for making clinical recommendations that we believe are appropriate for you.
Your oral health deserves personalized care — not a one-size-fits-all cleaning.
And if you ever wonder why we’re recommending something, ask us. We’re happy to explain the reasoning behind your care.
