It’s a long read, but worth it!
Earlier this year, we completed a very special case for a long-overdue patient. This case was completed pro-bono.
Our patient, Dale, grew up in British Columbia and, like many kids in Canada, played hockey for most of his life, competing in elite Junior A hockey leagues. Along the way, he lost some teeth - whether it was from a slap shot, a rogue high stick, or a flying elbow.
Dale came to us after many years and various dentures that never seemed to fit or work out. We made it our goal to fabricate a denture that was not only comfortable but also functional.
Due to many years of wear and missing teeth, Dale’s bite was over-closed. We decided upon cast partial upper and lower dentures, as some teeth needed metal retention for extra support. Accuracy was essential, so we ensured our impressions were as precise as possible for a seamless fit. For this, Josh used a light-body PVS on the teeth, while Simona loaded the custom tray with a medium-body PVS. This combination captured the intricacies of the wear on his teeth perfectly.
The dentures snapped into place pain-free, and Dale couldn’t believe it. After the try-in appointment, we added tooth-coloured acrylic over the metal retention to improve his bite.
The final dentures fit beautifully, and Dale couldn’t stop smiling. For the first time in years, he had a set of dentures that were both comfortable and functional, restoring his confidence to smile, eat, and speak without worry.
Dale is now enjoying everyday moments: meals, conversations, and laughter, without the concerns that had followed him for years. He is overjoyed, and so are we! 🏒😊🦷
