When should you see a podiatrist?
Sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. A podiatrist can assess your feet, identify the underlying issue, and help determine what type of care is appropriate for you.
Consider seeing a podiatrist if you have:
👟 Ongoing foot, calf, heel, ankle or toe pain
Especially if it affects how you walk, exercise, work, or go about your day.
🏃 Biomechanical concerns
If you have recurring injuries, problems with the way you walk or run, or questions about whether orthotics could help, a podiatrist can assess your biomechanics and determine whether orthotic therapy is appropriate.
🦶 An ingrown toenail or a more complex nail problem
Podiatrists can assess painful or recurrent ingrown toenails and more severe foot or nail concerns to determine the appropriate treatment.
🩺 Diabetes or other conditions that put your feet at higher risk
A podiatrist can assess your feet and identify concerns that may require medical attention. When ongoing foot care is appropriate, our nursing team can provide follow-up care such as wound, nail, and callus care.
🩹 A foot problem that isn't improving
If you've tried treating an issue on your own and it keeps coming back, getting an assessment can help identify why it's happening rather than simply treating the symptoms.
💡 Not sure who you should see? That's okay.
Depending on your concern, the right care may involve a podiatrist, pedorthist, physiotherapist, massage therapist, nurse, or another healthcare professional. The important thing is getting the right assessment first so you can receive the care that's appropriate for your feet. We will always refer you to trusted professionals in other fields when we feel a different type of care would best support your needs.
At our clinic, your first appointment with the podiatrist is an opportunity to assess your concerns, identify the underlying issue, and develop a plan. When ongoing foot care is needed, our nursing team can provide that continued care.
If you're unsure where to start, we're happy to help point you in the right direction.
