Measles: Highly contagious virus - febrile respiratory, rash, and eye infections.
Management of suspected measles cases:
❇️ Emergency dental care, provide a medical mask and isolate the patient in a separate room with the door closed, wear an N95 mask when interacting.
❇️ Reschedule non-urgent appointments.
❇️ Follow college’s IPAC Standard for disinfecting both clinical and non-clinical surfaces.
❇️ Ensure staff vaccinations are up to date, Implement a clear protocol for potential exposure, Post-exposure prophylaxis must be administered within 72 hours.
Dental offices MUST
✅ have a written policy ✅ screen patients for symptoms when confirming appointments and upon arrival.
✅ Reschedule patients who are ill.
✅ Suspected cases reported to the local public health unit immediately.
