As a holistic dentist, Dr Ayman looks at more than just straightening teeth he considers the development of the jaw, the available space and the way the whole mouth functions.

Where clinically appropriate, rather than removing healthy teeth simply to create room, Dr Ayman may use a plate expander to gradually widen the dental arch and create the space the teeth need.

The goal is to work with the natural development of the mouth, preserve healthy teeth where possible and create space for better alignment.

When it comes to your child’s teeth, timing can make all the difference.

Dr Ayman talks about preventative orthodontics and why assessing children while they’re still growing can be so important.

For some children, an expansion plate may be recommended to help guide jaw development and create more space as their adult teeth come through.

Early intervention may help with crowding, bite development and jaw growth, and in suitable cases may reduce the complexity or need for braces later.

It may also support better nasal breathing where a narrow upper jaw is contributing to airway issues.

Don’t wait until all the adult teeth are in to ask the question. Early assessment matters.
