Julie Frahm Glass Jewellery Handmade Glass Beads and Jewellery by Julie Frahm
http://www.juliefrahmglass.com AussieJules is me….Julie Frahm. But it’s an important part of my business.

I started making jewellery when I left school, and I still remember the first piece of jewellery that I made, and the positive comments that it received. People asked where I had bought it, and when I told them that I had made it, some orders resulted. Little did I know that the simple necklace strung on dental floss (because I didn’t know any better then) would result in a lifetime of making jewe

llery! In 2005 I started making my own glass beads (wow, has it been that long)? I wanted to make my jewellery more unique, and after doing a glass beadmaking workshop on Kangaroo Island, my world lit up with new ideas! In 2009 I started making the glass beads from recycled glass sources like broken wine/beer bottles and other glass objects. This has been a very interesting journey, experimenting with recycled glass, pushing the boundaries. I especially like it when people ask me to make beads and jewellery for them from old glass that they have kept. I love that my hobby has turned into a full time creative business for me.

I have been dreaming about this colour palette for a long time. 💙💚💜

I remember seeing Monet’s paintings while travelling through Europe (a long time ago)! I saw them in Paris and spent ages standing in front of those incredibly large paintings, taking in the colours, the depth and all the tiny details.

More recently, it was wonderful to see one of his paintings at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Of course, I bought the exhibition book, and found myself staring at the cover for a long time before heading to my glass and choosing a dozen rods of transparent colour.

And now, that inspiration is beginning to take shape.

I can’t wait to finish making the beads for this new collection of jewellery, coming to Etsy very soon.

Evolution of an idea. 🌸

I used to make flower beads similar to these many years ago. I’m pretty sure I was making them with opaque backgrounds back then, so this time I decided to experiment with transparent glass.

My first experiments involved adding some smashed-up glass (frit) to the base to introduce a little colour. I tried it a few different ways… and then, as often happens, one experiment led to another.

What would they look like without the frit? And what if I changed the shape while I was at it?

I opened the kiln to discover that the new shape was really cute. So today I’m experimenting with a whole range of different colours.

Stay tuned — and keep your fingers crossed! 🤞

I already know these test beads will end up in my collection, waiting for the right moment to be turned into something beautiful.
