Ever wondered how a fixed retainer actually gets made? 👀
 
It starts on the computer. We take a 3D scan of your teeth, then map out exactly where the wire needs to sit, curve by curve.
 
Then the Bender II takes over. It grabs the wire, bends it to match the design, and fires out a retainer that’s custom made for your teeth. No pliers, no hand bending.
 
This kind of tech isn’t something you see in every clinic, and we get to use it right here in our own lab 🙌

Twelve years of study after high school. 
A lot of late nights. 
A lot of coffee.
& Dr. Patty Medland says it was worth it.
 
Not because of the title, but because of the people. 
 
She’s watched patients make the soccer team, pass their exams and finish their piano grades. Now some of those same kids walk back in as parents, bringing their own children to see her.
 
“It’s family, and I like being part of the family.”
 
At Medland Orthodontics, every patient gets more than one set of eyes. Some of our orthodontists are strongest on the mechanics, some on diagnosis, some on patient care, and we bring all of that together to plan each treatment.
 
When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. Patty is giving lectures overseas and teaching the next generation of orthodontists.
 
Her message to her 16-year-old self? Go easy on yourself. You make the best decisions you can with what you know. If you end up an orthodontist, great. If you end up doing something else entirely, that’s great too. 🤍

Feel good wednesday, generational edition ✨
 
Back in 2012, a mum sat down in our chair and Dr. Patty Medland fitted her braces.
 
Fast forward to October 2026 and she’s back. Only this time she’s not the patient. She’s the proud mum in the waiting room, because it’s her daughter’s turn.
 
Same practice. Same Dr. Patty. Just fourteen years later.
 
Swipe to the end for the throwback. See that little one in pink sitting on mum’s lap while mum was mid-treatment? 

Yeah. That’s her. And now she’s the one in braces 🥹
 
Having a family come back to us across two generations is honestly the stuff that makes creating smiles so rewarding. Thanks for walking back through our doors, it’s made our whole week and it’s only tuesday! 💙
