“Mouthwash can replace Brushing”

100% FALSE!

Brushing and Flossing are essential for plaque removal.

* Brushing removes plaque from the tooth surface
* Flossing removes plaque in between the teeth

Mouthwash can be used after brushing and flossing, but it is not essential.

It is a common misconception that we only need to start looking after our teeth once they become permanent adult teeth and that it’s not as important to care for baby teeth. This could not be further from the truth.

Healthy baby teeth pave the way for healthy adult teeth. Early loss of baby teeth due to decay or other conditions influences the amount of space that is needed for adult teeth to come through. This may then lead to crowding and the need for orthodontic intervention. It is also important to create good habits at a young age, the earlier children are taught to take care of their teeth, the more likely they will be to have good oral hygiene habits into adulthood.

Wondering why your teeth are sensitive?
It is often due to weakened enamel, exposing nerves. Relief is possible.

Sensitive toothpaste typically contains stannous fluoride, potassium nitrate or strontium chloride.

These active ingredients calm tooth nerves, desensitising them to triggers like cold and heat. Consistent use builds up resistance over time.

Not all sensitive toothpastes are the same. Different ingredients and concentrations matter and will lead to different results.

Over the counter toothpaste may suffice for minor sensitivity. While prescription strength has higher concentrations for severe cases.

Try over the counter first for minor sensitivity. If severe or persistent sensitivity persists make an appointment with your dentist. They may recommend prescription strength for lasting relief or they may advise other treatment is required.
